Job description

This extremely critical role reports directly to the President and is responsible for defining a product road map for the next stage of the company’s evolution. Established in 2003, Ienso has been providing imaging and wireless solutions that help global brands take their products to the next level in the age of embedded systems and AI platforms. Over the last decade and a half, Ienso has perfected the engineering ecosystems that exist between initial design and high-volume manufacturing and is now ready to launch a product strategy that will allow the company to reach more customers and take them to the next phase of growth. The Product Manager will help to lead the charge.


Based in the Toronto office, this person will be a key member of the management team. The role will blend technical depth and marketing expertise to be the product leader as well as the local technology/customer evangelist. Ienso’s work with distinguished brands such as Bosch, Bushnell, Bombardier, and Siemens, has set the standard for a world-class product platform. This individual will need to be a self-starter with experience in early-stage company environments, allowing them to step outside their defined role and take on any activity that moves the goalposts and delivers results.


Responsibilities

  • Identify, package, and market existing Ienso IP to reach more customers through product sales.
  • Conduct market and competitive analysis to identify opportunities for future technology and product development.
  • Define product objectives, market potential, investment requirements, and risks for each new product and develop Business Cases in order to provide a solid basis for executive decisions.
  • Work with the engineering team to finalize initial product specifications and future development roadmap. Own the out-of-box experience.
  • Work with technology partners to develop product positioning and go-to-market strategy for each product. Position products as integration-ready.
  • Work with Marketing to develop sales tools and marketing collateral to facilitate successful product launches.
  • Develop and deliver product training for the sales channels to facilitate effective sales and support.
  • Assist in developing an effective overall marketing communications strategy.

Job requirements

The following indicates specific industry, academic and functional experience/qualifications that are important to the successful achievement of the identified responsibilities and performance deliverables.

  • Post-secondary degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field.
  • At least five to seven years of experience in product management including a successful track record defining, developing, and launching new embedded hardware and software products.
  • Proven ability to develop a product vision by understanding, documenting, and prioritizing the requirements of the market, including the end-user use cases.
  • Superior oral and written communication skills in English. This will include the ability to present information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Communication skills in Mandarin would be considered an asset.
  • Strong business acumen, entrepreneurial, with a drive to find viable business solutions to real market problems. Experience working in early-stage companies would be an asset.
  • High initiative, positive attitude, along with proven leadership skills.
